Last Saturday I tagged along with Sara as she released a Pelagic Cormorant at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. This unlucky cormorant was found in a lifeboat of one of the BC Ferries and after a period of recovery at Wildlife Rescue was ready for release. Sara and I named the cormorant Scampers after the noises he made in his crate on the drive to ferry terminal. After parking on the jetty we walked Scampers out to the shoreline with a minimum amount of bill hooking. As soon as Sara opened the door, Scampers burst out and immediately took flight, circled over us once, and headed off in search of other cormorants. Here’s hoping he stays away from the ferry lifeboats.
